Welcome to the world of Sanatan Dharma – a powerful guiding philosophy that empowers our society and ensures the preservation of our planet. We hold a profound reverence for every living being, recognising their inherent divinity. Our most cherished mantra, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” derived from the Maha Upanishad, encapsulates our belief that the entire world is one big family.

Today, the principles of Sanatan Dharma are more relevant than ever in our modern world. Countries and organisations across the globe are openly embracing the dharmic values that our ancestors introduced through our sacred scriptures. Concepts like Corporate Social Responsibility, Environment and Social Governance, Yoga, and Meditation have gained immense popularity, providing invaluable benefits for our minds and bodies.

One exemplary principle that embodies the essence of our dharma is Sewa or
Seva; a Sanskrit term that epitomises selfless service to humanity. In the present era, the importance of supporting those in need, be it humans, animals, or our environment – the nurturing mother Earth (Dharti Maa), has gained widespread recognition among various faiths and nations.

The act of performing simple acts of kindness without expecting anything in return is not only fulfilling but also profoundly rewarding. It benefits not just the recipients of our service but also fills our hearts with contentment and purpose. Witnessing the smiles and gratitude of those who receive our selfless acts brings immeasurable joy.

Here at the Oadby and Wigston Hindu Community, we are dedicated to serving the needs of our community by encouraging and supporting all dharmic initiatives. Together with local organisations, we promote volunteering to bring our communities closer. Acts of kindness can take many forms, from assisting neighbours, the elderly, schools, and colleges to volunteering at food banks, serving meals to the homeless, and caring for our environment by planting trees. Additionally, we encourage giving blood as well as sharing your acquired skills as a means to give back.

If you have some time to spare and wish to volunteer or have an initiative that
requires the support of our community or environment, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our dedicated team. We are here to lend a helping hand and make a positive difference.

As spoken in Chapter 3 of the Bhagavad Gita, “Strive constantly to serve the welfare of the world; by devotion to selfless work, one attains the supreme goal of life“. Embracing this timeless wisdom, let us join hands in creating a better world for all.
